Starting in 2013, this series has progressed nicely. In the last few weeks I’ve executed more than dozen. Despite the quick execution, some always seem to come back for touch-ups or re-inventions - most of them quite insightful and motivational. They come with a history of development.

My the on-going battle with UPS has stopped deliveries from them, so I ventured out into 3D land where I’ve found a ready source of bulk canvasses. As with anything, they come with limitations, so I have to be mindful of the stress placed upon the stretcher bars. I have not finished any pieces with resin lately, but that process does stress the support quite a bit.

A former bandmate introduced me to the concept of  adjusting to the changing parameters, to adapting to the limitations. The pandemic drove the point home, and has allowed me to thrive.

The household latex enamels that I am using date back to the beginning of the series, when, feeling flush, I went to the home improvement store and purchased over a dozen gallons of paint when they were on a patriotic sale. Only fitting. Out of high school my daughter joined the marines “to fight for our freedoms”, she said, then immediately corrected herself to say “well, not for your freedoms, ‘cause you weren’t born in this country.”

The formulations have evolved. My fascination with paint cans, first discovered while roaming about my building’s under ground parking garage as a kid, continues to fascinate me. Currently, I am seeking to control the puddles of paint, to control their flow and interaction on the painting’s surface, with careful consideration of the viscosity, volume and drying characteristics.
